Cool Season Planting

These cool August mornings are perfect for getting third season veggie seedlings into the ground. At the Greenhouse in the raised bed area, we are removing spring and summer plantings and making room for vegetables that love the cold weather: kohlrabi, cabbages, cauliflower and broccoli.  We’ll also be planting kale and collards in 5 gallon pots to grow in the hoop houses and greenhouse all winter long. Spinach and other greens are being seeded in large bins filled with potting soil The cool weather causes a wonderful chemical change and increases the sugar in the plant, making all the greens taste sweeter.   Come out to the 3rd & Curry Street Market on Saturday to purchase seedlings for your cool season garden.
